Ms. Williams, Mrs. Fox (aka Ms. Theriot) and I had the pleasure of working together to create a graphic novel with Ms. Williams class. Students came to the Media Center to work on their summarization skills after reading Double Fudge by Judy Blume in class. They then typed up their summaries and took them to art where they drew graphic representations of their summaries. The result is this REALLY COOL graphic novel! Each student has a page that they summarized and drew. We put it all together and it is now available on the shelf to check out. It is a pleasure to work with other teachers!
Journalism Club has met for the last couple of weeks. We began by working on a biography, newspaper style of someone that each student chose. Yesterday, we worked on interviewing each other so that when they are ready for KNN next year, they can hit the ground running and do a lot of fun things.
In the next few weeks, we will do a screen test, begin working on scripting and practice speaking in front of the camera. It's very exciting to see these kids get ready for the news! Students in first grade are working on Point of View within a story. Who is telling the story? Is it an unknown narrator or a character? We talked about 1st person and 3rd person narration (and the students really impressed me with their understanding of this concept!), then we read No, David! together. After reading, they each took a page and wrote a sentence from David's point of view. If David had been telling the story, what would he have said? This week, with first grade, we worked on Point of View. We read a first grade favorite, No David by David Shannon and discussed who is telling the story. Then, we took it page by page and rewrote the story from David's point of view. Some of the things that David would have said are hysterical! The students did a great job thinking about what they would say if they were David and writing it down. Thank you all for your support of the Keheley book fair! Even though we had three snow-less snow days in the middle of our fair, we still managed to have a successful fair. If you ordered online, please note that your order will be shipped to Keheley and we will get it to your child. If you ordered books as a surprise, simply email me and I will let you know when they arrive. You can pick your books up any time I am at school.
Again, thanks for supporting the Keheley Book Fair |
